Biyela Lodge Symbol

Biyela translates as ‘Protector’ A fitting symbol of the Biyela Clan is the all powerful, majestic African elephant.

The chief of this Clan, Phiwayinkosi Biyela, is a descendent of King Shaka and is committed to safeguarding the people of his Clan – their culture and livelihoods, as well as the surrounding wilderness.

The Lodge is named after his Clan. With this low-impact lodge he brings the dreams of his father to life.

With cool rectilinear pavilions, the lodge is built into the hillside of this piece of untouched mFulaWozi wilderness, perfectly positioned to maximise the sweeping views of the imposing flood plains of the White iMolozi River below.

Biyela Lodge celebrates this unique landscape its interiors with a colour palette derived from the surrounding flora. As the basis for local healer’s medicines, the flora have inspired a concept of Contemporary African Apothecary. Colours range from shades of green – in olive, pea and chartreuse, to a silver grey and umber. This modern apothecary theme is constantly referenced – in the furniture, material selections including steel, timber and glass, artworks and spatial planning. The surprisingly modern, contemporary buildings are open and unpretentious, and offer a feast for the eyes with the floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening out, creating an unfettered link with the prestige environment.

The five-star Biyela consists of 12 luxury stabs-alone suites, most with their own private plunge pools, and private wooden decks. The lodge is a secluded shelter of privacy and eco-luxury, and is one of the two completed lodges in the mFulaWozi Wilderness Reserve.

Guests are able to choose an active and adventurous day with game drives, birding, wilderness walks or many other activities. Or simply relax by the suite’s private infinity plunge pool, imbibing the sights and sounds of the surrounding wilderness.

Alternatively succumb to a traditional massage as revitalisation takes on a new dimension at Biyela.

The main lodge embodies satisfaction for any need you could imagine. Whether you browse away the day through the titles in the lodge’s library. Or you may prefer to savour the thoughtfully selected wines along with contemporary dishes that explore a plant-based food concept in which indigenous plants are the heroes.

The results are guaranteed to satisfy the most discerning palettes. The personalised attention of the staff enhances the lodge’s enlightened state.

You will learn very quickly that the experience here at Biyela is very different and very judicious.
